Dishwasher not drying dishes
Dishes come out clean but soaking wet. Can that be fixed?
Straight answer: Partly expected, partly fixable. Many European dishwashers (Bosch, Miele) dry with residual heat and plastics stay damp by design. If drying got noticeably worse, the heater, rinse-aid dispenser or vent is the usual cause.

Error codes you might see
Bosch may show E09 for a heater fault. Other brands rarely code a drying problem.
What it usually means
- Rinse-aid dispenser empty or not dispensing
- Heating element or heater relay failed
- Vent or fan assembly stuck on models that vent moisture
- Cycle choice: eco cycles dry less
- Loading: cups collecting water, plastics on the bottom rack
Safe to check yourself
- Fill the rinse-aid reservoir and set the dose higher
- Open the door a crack when the cycle ends to let steam out
- Select a heated-dry or extra-dry option if the machine has one
- Load cups at an angle so water drains off
Unplug the appliance or switch off the breaker before touching anything behind or under it. If you're not comfortable, skip the checks and call; the visit covers all of this.
Time to call when
- Water in the bottom is cold at the end of a cycle
- A heater code appears
- Drying got dramatically worse over a few weeks
What the visit looks like
A technician comes to your place, diagnoses the dishwasher and tells you what it needs and what it costs. You decide; nothing starts without your okay. $99 CAD covers the visit and diagnosis anywhere in our area.
Dishwasher repair: what to expect
Good to know
My Bosch never dried plastics. Is that a fault?
Not usually. Condensation drying leaves plastics damp. If glass and plates are also wet, that's when it's worth a visit.
Can a heater be replaced?
Yes on most models. Price depends on the brand; you get the quote before any work.
