Error codes you might see
Samsung and LG fridges often show this with frost on the back wall of the freezer. Some models flash a temperature alarm or a blinking light.
What it usually means
- Evaporator coils iced over because the defrost system stopped working
- Evaporator fan not turning, so cold air never moves into the fridge section
- Damper or air vent between the compartments stuck closed
- Door gasket leaking warm air so the fridge can't keep up
Safe to check yourself
- Listen for a fan running when the doors are closed; silence plus a cold freezer is a clue
- Make sure vents inside aren't blocked by containers pushed to the back
- Check the gasket with a sheet of paper: if it slides out easily, the seal is weak
- Move perishables to a cooler and keep the doors closed as much as you can

Can I fix this by unplugging the fridge for a day?
A manual defrost sometimes buys you a week, but if the defrost system failed the ice comes back. Worth knowing before you spend another day without a fridge.
Is this a compressor problem?
Usually not. A compressor that still makes the freezer cold is doing its job. The visit tells you for sure and you get the quote before anything's approved.
