Dishwasher not draining (E24, E25, 5C, OE codes)
There's water sitting in the bottom of my dishwasher after the cycle. Why?
Straight answer: Standing water after a cycle means the drain path is blocked or the pump isn't pushing. Check the filter and the sink connection first; if those are clear, the drain pump or a check valve is the usual culprit.

Error codes you might see
Bosch shows E24 or E25. Samsung shows 5C or 5E. LG shows OE. Whirlpool and KitchenAid often show F2 or just a blinking light.
What it usually means
- Dishwasher filter clogged with food and glass
- Drain hose kinked, or the loop under the sink has dropped
- Garbage disposal knockout plug never removed after a new install
- Drain pump failed or its impeller jammed
- Check valve stuck, letting water flow back in
Safe to check yourself
- Remove the bottom rack and lift out the cylindrical filter; rinse it
- Run the garbage disposal if you have one; a full disposal backs up the dishwasher
- Check the drain hose under the sink is looped high and not pinched
- Scoop out the standing water with a cup before the visit if it smells
Unplug the appliance or switch off the breaker before touching anything behind or under it. If you're not comfortable, skip the checks and call; the visit covers all of this.
Time to call when
- The filter is clean and water still sits after a cycle
- You hear the pump hum but nothing drains
- The code comes back the next wash
What the visit looks like

Dishwasher repair: what to expect
Good to know
My new dishwasher never drained properly. What gives?
If it's connected to a garbage disposal, the knockout plug inside the disposal inlet is often still in place. It's a quick fix on the visit.
Is E24 always a pump?
No. On Bosch it's usually the filter or the hose first. We go in that order so you're not paying for a part you don't need.
