Electric dryer
Dryer takes two or three cycles to dry
My dryer heats, but clothes need two or three runs to dry. Why so slow?
Straight answer: Nine times out of ten this is airflow. A dryer that heats but dries slowly is pushing air through a clogged vent, a crushed hose or a lint-packed duct. It's also a fire risk, so it's worth sorting out.

Error codes you might see
LG shows D80, D90 or D95 for restricted airflow. Samsung may show AC or dC.
What it usually means
- Dryer vent duct clogged with lint, sometimes years of it
- Vent hose crushed behind the dryer or too long with too many bends
- Outside vent flap stuck shut or screened over
- Moisture sensor bars coated with dryer-sheet residue
- Heating element partially failed, so it heats but weakly
Safe to check yourself
- Clean the lint screen and wash it; dryer-sheet film blocks it even when it looks clean
- Run the dryer and check that air is coming out strongly at the outside vent
- Pull the dryer out and straighten or shorten the hose
- Wipe the two metal moisture-sensor strips inside the drum with rubbing alcohol
Unplug the appliance or switch off the breaker before touching anything behind or under it. If you're not comfortable, skip the checks and call; the visit covers all of this.
Time to call when
- Airflow at the outside vent is weak after you've cleaned the screen
- The dryer gets very hot on top
- A D80/D90 code stays on after cleaning
What the visit looks like
A technician comes to your place, diagnoses the electric dryer and tells you what it needs and what it costs. You decide; nothing starts without your okay. $99 CAD covers the visit and diagnosis anywhere in our area.
Electric dryer repair: what to expect
Good to know
Do you clean dryer vents?
We clear the accessible duct as part of a repair visit when it's the cause. A long run through the house may need a dedicated vent-cleaning service; we'll tell you which.
Is a slow dryer dangerous?
Lint plus heat is how dryer fires start. Treat a slow dryer as a maintenance job, not a quirk.
