Electric oven & stove
Oven showing an F error code (F1, F2, F3, F10, F30)
My oven beeps and shows an F code. What does it mean?
Straight answer: F codes are the oven's way of saying a sensor, a button or the control board didn't check out. Most are fixable; a few mean the board needs replacing. Note the exact code and the brand when you call.

Error codes you might see
F1: control board or stuck key on many brands. F2/F3: temperature sensor circuit (Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE). F10/F30: runaway temperature or sensor (Frigidaire, Electrolux). F9: door lock on self-clean models.
What it usually means
- Temperature sensor open or shorted
- Control board relay or processor fault
- Touch pad or a stuck key
- Door lock motor or switch on self-clean ovens
- Wiring harness connection loosened by heat
Safe to check yourself
- Write down the exact code and when it appears (on start, mid-bake, during self-clean)
- Switch the oven off at the breaker for five minutes and back on; some codes clear and stay cleared
- Avoid running self-clean until the code is resolved
- Don't keep cooking on an oven that shows a runaway-temperature code
Unplug the appliance or switch off the breaker before touching anything behind or under it. If you're not comfortable, skip the checks and call; the visit covers all of this.
Time to call when
- The code comes back after a breaker reset
- The oven won't heat or won't stop heating
- The door is locked after self-clean and won't release
What the visit looks like

Electric oven & stove repair: what to expect
Good to know
Will a power reset fix an F code?
Sometimes, for a stuck key or a one-off glitch. If it returns within a day or two, something's actually wrong.
Is a control board repair worth it?
Depends on the oven. Boards for mainstream ranges are reasonable; built-in wall ovens can be pricier. You get the number before you decide.
