Electric oven & stove
Electric oven not heating up
My oven turns on but never gets hot, or bakes unevenly. What's wrong?
Straight answer: On an electric oven, no heat is most often a failed bake element, and uneven heat is often the element or the temperature sensor. A bake element that has a visible blister or break is the easiest diagnosis there is.

Error codes you might see
Frigidaire and Electrolux show F10 or F30 for sensor faults. Whirlpool and KitchenAid show F2 or F3. Samsung shows E-08 or tE.
What it usually means
- Bake element burnt out (often with a visible spot or break)
- Temperature sensor out of range
- Oven control board relay failed
- Broil-only operation because the bake circuit is open
- Oven set to a timed or sabbath mode by accident
Safe to check yourself
- With the oven cold and off, look at the bottom element for a break, blister or a bright spot
- Check the display for a mode you didn't set, and clear it
- Try bake and broil separately: if broil works and bake doesn't, that's the bake element
- Don't touch the element or open the back panel
Unplug the appliance or switch off the breaker before touching anything behind or under it. If you're not comfortable, skip the checks and call; the visit covers all of this.
Time to call when
- The element has a visible break
- The oven reaches temperature then shuts off or swings wildly
- A sensor or F-code shows on the display
What the visit looks like
